Defining mechanisms: interventional studies to test specific pathways

Whilst workstrand 4 may identify potential BP response genes from genetic analysis of a metabolite signature associated with a BP response, workstrand 5 will probe pathways directly to determine the organs involved, and how these relate to differential response to first-line anti-hypertensive drugs.
The initial phase of this work strand will focus on pathways identified from previous work including our preliminary multi-omics analysis which is thought to be implicated in ethnic differences in vascular physiology. Thus nitric oxide synthase (NOS) has been implicated in hypertension and BP response from GWAS and target sequencing, our analysis of metabolites associated with arterial stiffness and previous associations with diuretic response.
